Introducing Cooper DehookerPro™
Safer for you. Better for our fish.
Why it's different
Most dehookers pull the hook straight back out.
The Cooper DehookerPro™ works differently. It reverses the hook vertically and horizontally - so it exists the way it went in.
That difference matters when:
- Fish are gut hooked
- Hooks are set awkwardly
- Fish need to be released quickly
The result is less damage to the fish, fewer injuries to anglers, and more consistent releases - even under pressure.
Built for real fishing
Whether you fish from a wharf, jet ski, boat, or launch, the Cooper DehookerPro™ gives you control when it matters.
It’s suitable for anglers of all experience levels and allows many fish to be released without lifting them out of the water.
Release fish with control
Quick, clean hook removal reduces handling time and improves a fish’s chance of survival after release.
By helping unwanted or undersize fish swim away stronger, the Cooper DehookerPro™ supports a healthier fishery - without slowing you down.

It doesn't just pull the hook out - it reverses it
The Cooper DehookerPro™ rotates the hook 180° before removal, allowing it to exit cleanly - often without lifting the fish from the water.
By reversing the hook rather than pulling it straight back out, it gives anglers more control, reduces fish handling time, and supports cleaner releases.
Designed in New Zealand.
Built for anglers anywhere.

Does the DehookerPro work on all hooks?
It works on most common J and circle hooks. The key factor is hook shank size.
The DehookerPro is suitable for hooks up to 2.4 mm shank diameter.
Does it work on large hooks?
A DehookerPro XL is coming soon, designed for hooks with a 2.5 mm to 4.5 mm
shank, suitable for species such as kingfish and tuna.

Do I need slack line for it to work?
Yes. The hook needs slack to rotate 180°. If the line is under heavy load, the hook may not turn. Once tension is released, or with a short push-pull motion - the hook can rotate and come free, often using the fish’s own weight.
Does it work on gut-hooked fish?
Yes. The slim design allows access deep into the mouth or gut to engage the hook. Once engaged, releasing tension allows the hook to rotate and pop free.
This is especially useful for undersize fish that need to be released quickly.
Does it work on jigs and lures?
In many cases, yes - provided the hook is free to rotate. Some jigs have hooks moulded into the lure body, which prevents rotation.
What about hooks stuck in the jaw or bone?
These can be more difficult. The DehookerPro allows the hook to be twisted and rotated to find a release angle, giving more options than straight-pull tools.
As with any tool, removal depends on hook placement.
Can fish be released without lifting them out of the water?
In many cases, yes. This reduces handling stress and improves post-release survival, particularly for undersize or unwanted fish.
Is it suitable for beginners?
Yes. The tool is simple to use and does not require advanced techniques.
Clear instructions are on the packaging, or you can watch a demonstration video here.
Will it rust?
The DehookerPro is made from stainless steel, chosen for strength and corrosion resistance.
Like all fishing tools, it is not completely rust-proof and will last longest with proper maintenance.
What maintenance does the DehookerPro require?
Rinse thoroughly with fresh water after each fishing trip before you go home.
Every few months, apply a light spray of lubricating oil (such as WD-40 or CRC) to keep the spring mechanism operating smoothly and to help protect against corrosion.
